氧化應激(Oxidative stress)與包括心血管疾病(chronic diseases)在內的許多慢性疾病的病因有關。 脂質過氧化(Lipid peroxidation)是由於氧化損傷(oxidative damage)而發生的脂質(lipids)降解(degradation)，是氧化應激(oxidative stress)的有用標記(useful marker)。 多不飽和脂質(Polyunsaturated lipids)通常易受活性氧(reactive oxygen)的影響而受到氧化攻擊，從而導致產生明確的鏈反應，並生成最終產物，如丙二醛（malondialdehyde ,MDA）脂質過氧化(Lipid peroxidation)可能導致許多疾病的病理，包括動脈粥樣硬化(atherosclerosis)，糖尿病(diabetes)和阿爾茨海默氏病(Alzheimer’s)。
CheKine™脂質過氧化（CheKine™ Lipid Peroxidation (MDA) Assay Kit, MDA）檢測試劑盒為檢測各種樣品中存在的丙二醛（malondialdehyde, MDA）提供了便利的工具。 MDA與4-羥基壬烯醛（4-hydroxynonenal , 4-HNE）一起是脂質過氧化(lipid peroxidation)作用的天然副產物，其定量通常用作脂質過氧化(lipid peroxidation)作用的標記。 樣品中的MDA與硫代巴比妥酸（thiobarbituric acid ,TBA）反應生成MDA-TBA加合物，可以很容易地在OD 532 nm處進行比色定量。 同時，測量600nm處的吸光度，並通過532nm和600nm處的吸光度之差計算MDA（以避免蔗糖(saccharose) 的干擾）。1-100 µM/L
