美國抗體生產商Southern Biotech於1982年，由UAB細胞免疫專家Dr. Max Cooper與實驗室成員共同創立。鏈黴親和素(Streptavidin)是一種細菌衍生的生物素結合蛋白，據報導其表現出比親和素(Avidin)更少的非特異性結合。biotin與streptavidin有極高的親合性。Southern Biotech提供多株螢光標誌之Streptavidin，螢光物質（FITC、Rhodamine/TRITC、R-phycoerythrim/PE、Allophycocyanin/APC、CY5、CY3、APC/CY7、Spectral Red、Texa RED/TXRD）、酵素（HRP、AP）等標定。
