Filipin 是從 S. filipinensis 培養物中分離出的四種異構多烯大環內酯(isomeric polyene macrolides)； Filipin III 是主要的異構體(predominant isomer)，也是大多數研究中使用的異構體。 Filipin 與膜(membranes)中的膽固醇(cholesterol)結合，形成超微結構聚集體和復合物，可通過冷凍斷裂電子顯微鏡觀察(freeze-fracture electron microscopy) [1,2]。膽固醇的結合也降低了 Filipin 的內在螢光，這一特性也被用於檢測膜組分中的膽固醇(cholesterol)
