已知硫酸乙醯肝素蛋白多醣 (Heparan sulfate proteoglycans , HSPG) 在連接基底膜(the basement membrane)的組分蛋白(component proteins)、控制膜滲透性(membrane permeability)和信號轉導(signal transduction)方面發揮重要的結構和功能作用。後一種功能是通過控制細胞因子和生長因子對其細胞受體的生物利用度來實現的。細胞表面的 HSPG 通過促進生長因子(growth factors)與其受體之間的相互作用參與信號轉導(signal transduction)。乙醯肝素酶(Heparanase)是一種內切糖苷酶(endoglycosidase)，可特異性切割 HSPG 的硫酸乙醯肝素 (heparan sulfate ,HS) 側鏈。

透明質酸(Hyaluronic Acid)是細胞外基質中重要的結構大分子(macromolecule)，參與基質成分(matrix components)的相互作用(interaction)。哺乳動物透明質酸酶（Mammalian hyaluronidases , HYAL1 至 HYAL4）是通過水解 N-乙醯氨基葡萄糖(N-acetyl glucosamine)和 D-葡萄醣醛酸(D-glucuronic)之間的 1-4 鍵來降解透明質酸(hyaluronic acid)的 ECM 酶。哺乳動物透明質酸酶(hyaluronidases)也可以切割類似的糖胺聚醣(glycosaminoglycans)。Razie 哺乳動物透明質酸酶檢測試劑盒(Razie mammalian hyaluronidase assay kits)可用於篩選透明質酸酶抑制劑(hyaluronidase inhibitors)和定量透明質酸酶活性(hyaluronidase activity)。該試劑盒的原理與乙醯肝素酶檢測試劑盒(heparanase assay kit)非常相似。適應性可用於測量細菌(bacterial )透明質酸酶 (hyaluronidase enzymes)的活性。
